Security System
Very easy to set up. Sometimes hard to get to customer service.

Good starter kit with the ability to add on!
This 6 Piece Wireless Home Security System is incredibly easy to set up, that even less tech savvy people should be able to tackle it. This is a nice starter system that comes with a camera, 3 sensors, keypad and base station, with options to add more sensors and cameras later if desired. You don’t need a contract and can use the system as-is, but you get more features and monitoring with the subscription. The app is intuitive and easy to use. The sensors work well and are easy to install at entry points. The camera is very nice with great resolution, wide field of view and night vision, as well as options to use a wired connection or wireless. A charging cord is provided to recharge as needed. I use it wireless and had no issues connecting to my wifi initially (and staying connected). I wish all of the camera features were available without the subscription, but to maximize the use of this system including more recorded data, you do need one. I am out of town frequently and may need to subscribe for the additional functionality. The system integrates with my Smart home features like Alexa, which I really appreciate. If you are looking for a system for a small property, or a base model to add onto later, this is an easy-to-use and effective all-in-one security solution and I would recommend it. It is even better if you decide to opt into the subscription, but for basic monitoring and peace of mind, you can use it without. I think it is a good value compared with other security systems I have tried in the past.

Easy to set up – great as a starter kit
This being the first Simplisafe product we own, ease of use and expandability was something I was looking for. This is a solid starter kit to get familiar with the Simplisafe products. Set up was a breeze – love the various options including battery operated modes, etc. Installation instructions and process were clear and nice to have. This kit provided keypad, base station, 3 entry sensors, and a camera – which was perfect as a starter kit for our home. The camera had pretty angle of view – was pretty clear. Linking to each device was easy – i’d feel comfortable to say that less tech-savvy people would be able to do this. The 24 hour access has been pretty solid – but like others have noted it’s best to sign up to see more recorded data, however, it still provides some peace of mind being able to actively monitor. I do like the different modes you can put the system in – pretty standard, but the UI has been really easy to use.The best part is the ability to keep adding new tools, cameras, even other types of detectors to the system – just handy instead of managing multiple systems. Also – ask your home insurance provider if they provide any discount installing one of these – sometimes the cost savings are there. Simplisafe was one of the recommended products by my insurance provider which was a nice benefit.Overall – good expandable security set to start with that’s easy to use – can’t ask for more.

Your Safety is Simply Pay-Walled
SimpliSafe is advertised as a DIY alarm system that is easy enough for the average home owner to install and provide some peace of mind while you are home or away. In theory, it can do that, as long as you are willing to continue paying every month for service. Unfortunately this really takes SimpliSafe out of the special niche they were based on and puts them in the same boat as all the other competition. The system itself is simple to set up. As a Tech Insider, I would like to believe that I have a fair amount of hands on experience, so the setup process did come naturally to me and I have almost no complaints. You receive a Base Station with every kit that is the main hub of the system. You would use the SimpliSafe app to set up this device first, and then the app will walk you through the process of pairing your keypad and sensors. The most challenging part of setting the system up is removing the battery pull tabs and pressing a pairing button. It’s really that simple. Great Job on that part. The overall setup including firmware updates, pairing the 4 door sensors and a motion sensor, a keypad, and adding additional keypad PINS took me around 30 minutes while working at a fairly comfortable pace. During setup, the app will ask if you want to self monitor or subscribe to the monitoring service. This can be useful if you want the alarm system to dispatch 911 services on your behalf in the event that an alarm is triggered. In all of my experiences with SimpliSafe, they have offered a free month of professional monitoring after installing. After that, the subscription will be $30-60/mo depending on level of security you select. SimpliSafe does allow the security system to be used without any monitoring subscription, but lets you know that the user will have limited access. LIMITED is right! As someone who is fairly experienced with these types of things, I feel very comfortable keeping an eye on my own property and contacting emergency services as needed.Unfortunately, SimpliSafe blocks you from assigning more than one user to the app without purchasing a subscription. The only way to bypass this by sharing your login with other users that need access, which is not recommended, but is the only workaround. This leads us to the next problem. The SimpliSafe app will not even send the account holder any notification if an alarm is triggered without a subscription! What is the point of a security system if it wont even notify you that an alarm was triggered??!!This is a huge problem, as SimpliSafe has essentially put your safety secondary to a subscription fee! SimpliSafe has always been marketed as a DIY system that will make the homeowner feel safer and more protected. However, with their business model and price point, I would honestly explore other options, as SimpliSafe has locked out their intended market.
