A “gate”way to peace of mind.
I would have paid double for this. How much would you pay for peace of mind?We moved into this house about a year ago and there is a somewhat busy street out front. Our mini dachshunds are usually really good about not running out the door but a couple weeks in we went out front and the door didn’t shut all the way. Wind blew it open and Moby came running to say high and right to the street. Panic mode engaged. I ran out into the middle of the road because hitting a human is harder for the driver to justify to the cops than hitting a puppy.Moby made it back home safely.Since then we have kept a moveable gate in front of the entry way. The entry way that happens to be 72 inches exactly.I stumbled across this gate and noticed it’s size, also 72 inches. I ordered it immediately. It fits perfectly and is much easier than moving a gate around.I did make 1 modification. On each side of the gate I put a couple furniture leg pads that are designed to keep furniture from slipping. Stacking 2 on top of each other provided a bit more stability, making the door nice and sturdy and opening smooth.

    Fits weird angles, easy operation
Perfect for our 62 inch, awkward angled opening.Had to install into baseboards but it worked fine. It’s pretty tight. My toddler wobbled tension gates out of place and crawled under the retractable ones. He can’t get past this one. It’s easy to open with one hand, but not easy enough for him to open. The door can be propped open or can close on its own.I like that the wall mounts stay put and the whole gate can be folded completely open, taken off/put back on the mounts easily.

Fits unique spaces and works with base boards!
I was concerned that we wouldn’t find a gate that would work due to the base boards of our new home. These fit perfectly into the dry wall at the top, and base boards at the bottom without an issue. No gaps. No issues with any part of it being uneven. We bought two and because of the flexibility of shape, they adjusted well to these two different areas in our home that are unique. They keep the baby and the dogs where they are supposed to be. I would have liked if they opened both ways, but overall these are great! Been using for a month and we are very happy with this purchase.

    Great for unusual spaces.
This is a sturdy gate made out of good material. The design so that you can add extensions works excellently in unusual spaces (we used it for our fireplace and for an uneven door space). The linen color is more attractive than your average white gate.

Great gate, but it has one big flaw…
We purchased this gate to surround our fireplace hearth for baby-proofing purposes. We considered using hearth pads, but most of those still don’t prevent little ones from touching the fireplace cover (and we also didn’t like the way they look, but that’s a personal preference thing!). Our mantle is 72″ wide, so we needed to purchase four of the matching extensions in order to wrap the whole thing around the mantle and attach it to the wall.Wall mounting is very easy: the gate comes with four small attachments which you mount to the wall using screws. How you do this will depend, of course, on what surface your wall is; in our case we used some heavy-duty drywall anchors and screwed the mounts to those. If you are happen to have studs located where you want to put the mounts, so much the better. Two bits of advice regarding the wall mounting process:– If you are able to screw the wall mounts into studs, I would highly advise using your own wood screws as the screws that come with products like this are notoriously cheap. And there’s no point attaching this to the wall in the first place if it’s not going to be secure, right?– The gate comes with a template you can use to mark the locations of the wall mounts, but I would suggest a different approach: First attach the lower mount to the wall, then attach the gate to the lower mount, and then connect the upper mount to the gate and mark its location. The reason I suggest this method is that the gate locks into the upper mount, so you want to be sure it is not too high or low relative to the gate. If it is too low, the gate will attach over it but won’t lock into place. If you measure it yourself you can be sure it will work. Here’s what we like about this gate:1) It looks great! We purchased the brown/bronze color and it matches the look of our fireplace perfectly. It’s heavy enough to be sturdy but not so heavy as to be cumbersome to position. Frankly, I’m delighted with how sturdy it is for its weight.2) Flexibility in positioning: The “joints” where each of the side pieces attaches to the central gate can be bent to most any useful angle. In our case we have four extra attachments (see photos), so we were able to bend the entire unit around the edges of our mantle. Once you position all thd pieces the way you want them, you twist the connecting rod at each joint to lock all the pieces in place. If you want to change any of the angles, just loosen the connecting rod, make the change, and re-tighten the rod. Easy!3) If you want to remove the gate entirely from the wall, you simply disconnect it from the wall mounts. The wall mounts are small and not really an eyesore, so we’ll leave them in place until we are permanently past the baby-proofing years.A few things I’m not as happy about:1) I would like to see a more complex unlocking mechanism for the gate itself: the door opens relatively easily by simply pushing a button at the top of the gate to unlock it. For a baby gate, this is TOO easy; I don’t think it would take long for a toddler to figure out how to unlock it. Frankly, given how well made this product seems overall I’m surprised that the unlocking process is so simple. Many baby-proofing gates require a two-step process to unlock them (i.e. “lift this and push that”); this one only requires pushing a button. Because we are using this as a fireplace guard, we don’t really need to open the gate, so I may secure it shut semi-permanently with plastic ties or something. For this reason, though, I would NOT recommend this gate between rooms or in any location where people would need to pass through it. This severely limits the usefulness of this gate, in my opinion.2) We received a defective product: As shown in one of the photos, the small metal piece that locks one side of the gate to its wall mount is misshaped, preventing it from locking securely to the mount. Normally to disconnect the gate from the wall mount you have to press a spring-loaded switch to release it, but because of this defective part our gate can be lifted off one of the mounts without pressing the switch, even after it has audibly clicked into place. All in all, we are very satisfied with this as a fireplace guard because I can rig it so it doesn’t open, but because the gate unlocking mechanism is too easy for a toddler to figure out I would NOT recommend this if people need to pass through it.

I ordered four extensions to add to the main gate and it’s the perfect size. REALLY easy to put together and looks amazing….nice and neat. Also for the price it looks great.

Product itself was good, but if you plan to return it good luck. They only gave 80% of my amount even though I paid to get this item shipped out. Really unhappy with how they handles my return.
